Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings – they are not granted by any state. These universal rights are inherent to us all, regardless of nationality, sex, ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status. They range from the most fundamental – the right to life – to those that make life worth living, such as the rights to food, education, work, health, and liberty.
Governance refers to all processes of governing, the institutions, processes and practices through which issues of common concern are decided upon and regulated. Good governance adds an evaluative attribute to the process of governing. From a human rights perspective, it refers primarily to the process whereby public institutions conduct public affairs, manage public resources and guarantee the realization of human rights.
SAMFOUND focus on:
Human rights are universal rights of all human beings, regardless of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Every human being has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Health and its value to human life has been recognized as a basic human right in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The right to health is indivisible from other human rights, Universal health coverage (UHC) grounded in primary health care helps Cameroon realize the right to health by ensuring all people have affordable, equitable access to health services.
No one should get sick and die just because they are poor, or because they cannot access the health services they need. Good health is also clearly determined by other basic human rights including access to safe drinking water and sanitation, nutritious foods, adequate housing, education and safe working conditions.
The right to health also means that everyone should be entitled to control their own health and body, including having access to sexual and reproductive information and services, free from violence and discrimination.
Everyone has the right to privacy and to be treated with respect and dignity. Nobody should be subjected to medical experimentation, forced medical examination, or given treatment without informed consent.
Together with our partners, We have a long way to go until everyone – no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they have – has access to these basic human rights.
After fleeing war or persecution, one of the most effective ways people can rebuild their lives with dignity and in peace is through the opportunity to work and earn a living.
SAMFOUND works to promote livelihoods and economic inclusion for internally displace and refugees. We trained and subsidize their various activities and advocate for their right to work and support them in becoming more resilient and achieve self-reliance.
How does SAMFOUND help?
SAMFOUND and her Partners help people who were forced to flee their homes and are now living in a new community by promoting their economic inclusion, advocating for their right to work and supporting their inclusion in government social protection systems. We support internally displaced and refugees to gain access to the labor market in their host communities, which in turn allows them to seize economic opportunities.
Climate change is one of the greatest human rights challenges of our time and threatens the effective enjoyment of a range of human rights including those to life, water, sanitation, food, health, housing, self-determination, culture and development.
We are protecting the Right to Life of Individuals of Present and Future Generations in the following ways, greening the existing human rights paradigm, formulating a new substantive right to the environment, public interest litigation and intergenerational justice.
Together with partners, we are pressing governments and institutions to take concrete and urgent actions on climate change. This isn’t about charity or aid, it’s about human rights and justice.
