AIM:
Sensitize and educate primary school pupil and secondary school students on the 30 articles of the universal declaration of Human Rightshttps://www.humanrights.com/
Raise awareness on Human Right abuses and how to denounce them.
Empower teachers to better support students and pupil facing Human Rights abuses by providing them with relevant information. Establish a sustainable education program for future engagement.
KEY PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
NEEDS ASSESSMENT: A survey was conducted to assess the level of awareness on Human Rights among pupils, students and staff and the willingness of schools to hold educational workshops.
EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS: Interactive workshops, organized in collaboration with school proprietors and professionals, covered various aspects of human rights abuses in the community
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: Educational materials (brochures, posters, videos etc.) from partners /United for Human Rights were handed to participants. These resources were designed to be adaptable and reusable for future educational programs.
PROJECT OUTCOMES:
Increased Knowledge: participants gained a deeper understanding and awareness of Human Rights.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Teachers and parents present reported increased confidence in supporting the sensitization of Human Rights and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
SUSTAINABLE PROGRAM: The educational materials developed and the experience gained will be used for similar projects in the future, more than 18.000 copies of the Human Rights booklets – what are Human Rights?http://youthforhumanrights.org were distributed and taken home by participants.
POSITIVE FEEDBACK: School proprietors and participants expressed great satisfaction with the project and interest in future collaborations, most of them requesting for the creation of Human Right Clubs in the schools.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: The campaign extended beyond the school, to include families of students and staff, as well as the local community.
CONCLUSION: The success of this project has paved the way for similar initiatives in other schools and communities. For the 76th anniversary the town of Douala was earmarked.
